Healthy restaurants and sugar-free confectioneries in Budapest

It is so important to pay attention to our health, especially in this running, modern world, where everybody goes to fast food restaurants to eat hamburgers and french fries in only 10-15 minutes. Of course, it’s not a problem if you want to enjoy your Hungarian trip with special and big meals, but why won’t you do this in a healthy – and a delicious – way? There are plenty of kitchens, restaurants and sugar-free places which are perfect not only for overweight people, but for others, who has some disease, or just would like to eat in a healthy way. We collected you some popular healthy restaurants and sugar-free confectioneries in our big city.

Kitchen of Health Bistro

This health-conscious food bar opened in Downtown Budapest in the summer of 2017. It’s located on Dob street, where you can have meals that are made with clean and natural ingredients. The staff either use olive or coconut oil, Himalayan salt and salt from Praid, too, green banana flour, and you can also have sweet potato or rice as a side dish here. Besides this Bistro serves special and healthy food, you can get burgers here, too. You can get there easily, the bistro is only 3 minutes walk from Astoria metro station.

Healthy Kitchen – Reform Restaurant and Café

The Lurdy House – a supermarket and office house – gives place for the diet-friendly restaurant, the Healthy Kitchen. It’s in the 9th district’s Könyves Kálmán boulevard. Its staff’s motto is the next: “Eat good, look good, feel good!” The restaurant got the year’s most fitted award in this year. They serve different types of diet-friendly meals: roasted chicken with salads, with eye-catching vegetables mix, grilled vegetables fried in coconut-oil, cookie crumbs with oats, salmon steak, carbohydrates reduced calzone etc., so it’s really worth to visit it.

HILDA

This restaurant offers gluten-free, lactose-free and vegetarian food in a good price, all made of organic ingredients. It gets its name from the famous Hungarian architect, Hild József. The building has a youthful energy with a peaceful atmosphere. It’s located on the Nádor street, in the 5th district. 

Vegan Love

This is a vegan street food restaurant in the Buda side of the city, where you can realise that every meat, egg, or milk has a vegan variety! The Vegan Love serves not only vegan burgers, hot dogs or sandwiches, but organic cola and lemonade is also available here, in the Bartók Béla street’s vegan place.

Hokedli

Located in one of the busiest parts of downtown, Nagymező street, Hokedli offers locally made vegetarian, gluten-free and lactose-free meals – especially soups – to its health conscious guests. The popular restaurant boasts a friendly atmosphere, which may be responsible for the animal-friendly environment. So if you are in Budapest with your pet, you can jump into this restaurant during a simple dog walking. Of course their meals are made of fresh ingredients. Hokedli is close to the metro station of Nyugati railway station (and 4-6 tram station) and Arany János street station as well.

Fitnass

The mission of Fitnass Sugar-Free Confectionery is to provide diabetics, food allergies, conscious people and of course, everyone who opens to novelties. You can choose from numerous sugar, gluten, milk and egg-free delicacies and paleo cakes, pastries and ice creams in this confectionery. You can taste diabetic refreshments and coffee is also available in five alternative milk! Moreover, if you are planning to surprise your family or friends with a healthy cake, you can buy the organic ingredients from here, too. Its address is Zichy Jenő str. 43, close to Nyugati railway station.

Naspolya Nassolda

This kid-dog-bike-and-diet-friendly place is a big favourite for those, who would like to sneak away without having a sense conscience, stomach- or toothache. The confectionery’s products are not heat-treated and they are put into the counter after years of experiments with long seasons. You can also choose from sweet and salty alternatives, or even bring home from biscuits. And how to get to this place? Just go to the Deák Ferenc square metro station, or get to the downtown’s Király street by bus, from where it takes around 5 minutes by walk.

Sovány Vigasz

The confectionery’s name means ’thin consolation’ in Hungarian. In this place there is no gluten, no sugar, no lactose in the cookies, but these are so mouth-watering and eye-catching as well. However, it is better to hurry at the end of the day, because the counter may be ripped off soon! The Vigasz is close to the 4-6 tram’s Jászai Mari tér station, in the part of Újlipótváros.

Zabrakadabra

This healthy confectionery has a huge variety of showy and tasteful cakes. The place pays attention not only to the sugar replacing, they are also making gluten-free, paleo, vegan, diabetic, lactose free, egg-free cookies and cakes, too. They have two places, one in Pest, and the other in the Buda side of the city: under the Ferenc boulevard 1 – in the 9th district, and under the Dolgos street 2 – 12th district.
