As spring is coming we definitely tend to spend some free time outside. If you are with kids, it’s especially have to be funny, exciting and fabulous. If you have some days in Budapest do not forget to try the best playgrounds with the children, they are going to enjoy it! We would like to present you the best ones in this blog.

Budavári Mátyás király mesejátszótér

Buda Castle Mathias King Tale-playground

The playground’s location is unique. It’s located in the Buda Castle district (which is beautiful on its own), next to the Mathias church. Its speciality that it is a „tale-playground” because of the fact the kids can find two well-known Hungarian cartoon-characters here: Vuk and Pom Pom. The older children can attack the castle and its prison, but the smaller children will not be bored as well: they can swing up and down, or just play in the sand box.

This extraordinary playground is on the Gellért-hill, so the adults can also feel „little” among the huge and colorful pencils. These pencils are climbing frames, so in this ground nothing is as it seems. The special sand box could not miss from here, and there are also hidden trampolines, too. There is a very important part of this playground which can be instructive for the children: they can get to know more about the process of compost in a „useful waste path”. And how to get to this fabulous place? It’s easily approachable from Móricz Zsigmond körtér, just take the bus number 27 and stop at Búsuló Juhász stop.

This is one of the oldest thematic playgrounds in the capital city; which is created by 20 fine artists. A swineherd with his pig welcomes the kids and the parents at the entrance, but there are other fairy tale characters in the playground. The games here are connected to each other. We recommend you to take closed shoes because of the stones. You can find this place in the Millenáris park.

It’s in the neighborhood of Békásmegyer, so a little bit further away from the center. This playground is a peaceful place not only for the little ones, but for the adults as well, who do not have to miss out the funny things. For example they can exercise on any sports fields. You can reach it via the suburban railway system.

It’s got the name from the famous Hungarian cartoon character, the cute kid fox, Vuk. Usually, the children’s favourite is the foxheart here, which is not only super because it is possible to walk in the big tubes and get out on several exits, but it has been covered with rubber tabs, so it can be climbed to the top, where there are wooden made sitting place. There are special fairy tale character statues, not only Vuk, but Karak and geese etc. There is also a huge chess board, where the kids get to know the rules of this logistic game, and their slider with its court is also popular. It’s also close to the Móricz Zsigmond square, you have to stop at Búsuló Juhász stop with the bus number 27, from which you have to walk one minute until the corner of Szirtes and Bérc street.

In addition to the existing Wind Queen, Pelevari Bazaar, swings and other toys, a huge (8-meter-high) cannon and sliding castle was made with a suspension bridge. You and your kids can see the paintings of Anna Kálmán, the illustrator of the book on the wall. From 1 year up to the teenagers, everyone can find an activity here. It’s in the first district, in Mária square.

Pom Pom is an old Hungarian cartoon (and character), which was on TV in the 1980’s. A lot of people grew up on its cartoon. Pom Pom’s stories and characters come to life through the games. You will find the house of Artúr Gombóc in the central part of the playground. The smaller children have two baby swings, a little slide, spring toys, spider webs and a climbing frame. It’s located on the Naphegy square, which is reachable by bus number 178, it stops next to the playground.

One of the central elements in the playground is the giant wooden house, with all kinds of climbing nets, hooks, slides, up and down, carved animals and other surprises. The boys love the sailboat and other climbing rails. There is a slide with a tractor solution in its end, which is always very popular. There are a lot of special children furniture which are so eye-catching. You can find this in the 12th district, behind the Mayor’s Office, under Margaréta str 51.

It gets its name from the famous Hungarian poet, Sándor Weöres’ poem. The playground’s gigantic paint bottles are towering in the RaM Colosseum culture center. The playground has a lot of imaginary figures, locusts, pigs, frogs etc. from the poems of Weöres. Sliders could not be missed from here, and the kids can play on jungle gyms, swings and chalkboards, too. It is located on Kárpát street, in the 13th district.

It’s worth exploring with the kids! This is a real secluded little park with leafy trees. With its beautiful and colourful climbing grounds it’s like a fairytale town, where a mini soccer field has been made, too. On the crowded, leafy site you will find a hilly-climbing section with a slider, a cabbage and a snake stroller and rabbits. There is another climbing part of the playground: this is a castle decorated with animal motifs, where kids can go up and down with the help of small rubber balls. And of course, there are bigger and smaller – even baby-mum swings as well. You can find it in the 6th district, exactly under the address Benczúr köz 9.
